When Chicago Bears CB Charles Tillman signed a one-year deal to stay in Chicago during free agency, not only did it help shore up a position that was shaky for the Bears a season ago, it also meant he was granted another opportunity to play alongside longtime teammate and friend, Bears LB Lance Briggs.
And although Briggs did admit that he was surprised at Tillman’s decision to return to the Windy City, he also admitted that after hearing the news that he re-signed, it made him “the happiest man in Chicago.” Briggs said after former Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB and current New England Patriot Darrelle Revis left the Bucs, and Tillman visited with the Bucs he thought it was a sure thing he would end up in Tampa.
According to ESPN Chicago, Briggs sent Tillman a text wishing him good luck and telling him to tell Buccaneers new head coach and former Bears coach Lovie Smith he said, “hi.” Well, now that Tillman will remain in Chicago, that won’t be necessary, and I guarantee there are plenty of Bears fans who will also profess their happiness.
Both Briggs and Tillman were selected by the Bears in the 2003 NFL Draft and are the last two remaining players from a Chicago defense that was known for wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. It would have been a shame for Bears fans to have to watch arguably the best CB in Bears history play in a different uniform; fortunately, that bullet was dodged.
Now that Tillman is back in the fold, not only are Bears fans happy to see him back, one of the best linebackers in the game are too.
