5 QBs the Dallas Cowboys Should Consider Taking in the NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys are 100 percent committed to starting QB Tony Romo, but the backup situation is not set in stone. Kyle Orton is still considering retirement, and the Cowboys recently signed QB Brandon Weeden. The problem is, both Orton and Weeden are in their 30’s, so neither is the long-term replacement for Romo. That is why I believe Dallas should look at these five QBs in the NFL Draft.

Logan Thomas is the definition of a project player. He is not close to being ready to start in the NFL, however, he is an athlete with typical NFL QB size. He needs a lot of development, but could be worth a flier somewhere in the 5th-7th round.

Zach Mettenberger had an up and down college career at LSU. He is another player who needs to develop before becoming a starter in the NFL.

Brett Smith is not a well-known prospect, mostly because he played at the University of Wyoming. In three seasons with Wyoming, Smith threw for 76 TDs and rushed for another 20 TDs. He is expected to be selected somewhere in the middle rounds of the draft.

David Fales is another interesting prospect from a small college. Fales put up huge numbers in two seasons as the starter for San Jose State. He threw for 66 TDs and only 22 interceptions.

Aaron Murray was a four year starter for Georgia and played well every season. He threw for a total of 121 TDs and 41 interceptions in four years. The only reason Murray will likely be available in the middle rounds is because he suffered an ACL tear last season. If he is available in the middle rounds, I believe he would be a great selection for Dallas.
