Mark Sanchez Accepts Fate As Backup QB With Philadelphia Eagles
Well, that didn’t take long.
Just days after being released by the New York Jets, Mark Sanchez has reportedly found his new home. Contrary to popular thought, it’s not with the St. Louis Rams. As it turns out, his new job is with the Philadelphia Eagles.
You might be thinking, the Eagles? Why would the Sanchize sign on with a team that clearly has a starting QB?
The answer of why in this case is pretty obvious, though. Sanchez has simply accepted his fate as a backup QB. Nick Foles is clearly the man in Philly right now and this signing of Sanchez is certainly not about to start any sort of QB controversy in the City of Brotherly Love. It’s a straight up No. 2 gig for the former ‘franchise’ QB.
If you’re a competitor, you’ll probably have a hard time understanding why Sanchez accepted a backup role. There are plenty of teams that would have given him an opportunity to win their starting job. But he apparently wanted nothing to do with that. Instead, he made the best business move.
While signing on to be a backup QB isn’t flashy, it’s certainly a move that’s going to extend Sanchez’s career.
Whether you agree or not, it’s hard to say that this is a bad move for him. He’s now on a playoff team with lots of upside. And who knows when the injury bug might bite Foles, or if Foles will start regressing at some point? Both are possible and both would lead to Sanchez getting his shot.
Overall, the Eagles got a decent backup with this signing, while Mark Sanchez made the smart move for his career.
