The Green Bay Packers had an up and down free agency period. They made a huge signing in DE Julius Peppers, but they lost WR James Jones and will likely lose TE Jermichael Finley as well. Green Bay now looks ahead to the NFL Draft. The Packers will have the 21st pick and they have a lot of directions they can go. Here are five players they should be targeting with that pick.

Green Bay could look to upgrade their defense by taking LB Ryan Shazier of Ohio State. Shazier would be a nice addition to the defense, and he should be available when the Packers select at No. 21.

Safety is a position of need for Green Bay, and one player they could take is Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Clinton-Dix would help both the pass and run defense for the Packers.

3. Calvin Pryor

The other safety who could be available for Green Bay is Calvin Pryor. Pryor is a little better in pass coverage than Clinton-Dix, so that could make him a better option in the mind of the Packers

2. Eric Ebron

If Jermichael Finley does not return to the Packers, they will have a void at the TE position. Many scouts believe Eric Ebron is the best TE in this year’s draft. If they draft him, he would be another weapon at the disposal of Aaron Rodgers.

While many believe Ebron is the best TE in the draft, I tend to disagree. I think the best TE is Jace Amaro out of Texas Tech. He is a pass catching machine and would be a great red zone target for Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers need true 1st round offensive lineman so Aaron Rodgers is not running for his life. They lose to every team with a good defensive line. The 49ers, Seahawks and the Giants, for instance.

Yeah, guess the D will just fix it’s self huh??? Who we gonna bench, Bak who was impressive his 1st season and will only get better?? And it’s been said he’s already won the starting LT position. We gonna Bulaga who is a solid Tackle but missed all last season?? Or you wanna bench 1 of our 2 solid Guards who both ranked as top 10 Guards according to Pro Football Focus??? Our OL is gonna be solid as long as losing EDS don’t hurt us, but supposedly Green Bay is high on Tretter to fill that void, and if he does, our OL is gonna be very solid if we stay healthy. Sherrod is talented if he can stay healthy and we’ll use him and Barclay in rotation, 1 of the last things we need is OL this year, could maybe add a Center in the middle and use Tretter as a rotational guy at Guard and Tackle, but i seriously doubt we let a solid player like EDS go if there wasn’t already a plan in place. If we don’t fix the D, mostly upgrading ILB and adding a solid Safety, we’ll never compete come playoff time and make a run at the SB. If we had D in 11 and 12, we easily could of made runs through the playoffs, even if our D was slightly better last year and could of held SF at the end we could of easily come out of that game with a win. We need DEFENSE in the 1st, Mosley, Dix, Pryor or Shazier.

Phillip, I disagree. Two years ago, they drafted a bunch of defensive players and especially disappointing so far has been Nick Perry and Jerel Worthy. Last year, they took Datone Jones and he disappeared on the field. They need those guys to start producing and with the addition of Peppers along with Raji (who needs to lose weight), everything on defense will get better. On offense, you have undrafted free agent at right tackle, a light (300 pounds) at left tackle who was a 4th round pick. That’s stupid! The best quarterback in the is being protected by these guys? The left tackle should be 6’6″ and at least 325 with a nasty attitude. Bak got killed by Justin and Aldon Smith. That’s when it matters as well as against the Seahawks. Bak is a good player, but there is a big difference between 1st round players on middle round players. Look at this Greg Robinson coming out of Auburn! He is huge, fast and strong. The biggest problem with Thompson and the Packers is that he won’t pay offensive linemen. See ya later, EDS. Everything on offense gets easier with good offensive linemen. If Aaron Rodgers could stand back there untouched, it would be scary how good that offense would be! Right now, Bulaga and Sitton are the only two linemen they have that should be starting.
