2014 NFL Draft: 5 Players Pittsburgh Steelers Should Target with 15th Pick

The Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoffs last season and they are determined to not let that happen again in 2014. Pittsburgh lost WR Emmanuel Sanders in free agency and could lose safety Ryan Clark as well. Pittsburgh should be able to address those positions as well as others in the NFL Draft. The Steelers have the 15th overall pick and can go a lot of different directions. Here are five players they should target in the first round.

5. Timmy Jernigan

Pittsburgh has always been known for their defense and if they want, they can add to their defense by taking DT Timmy Jernigan. Jernigan would give the Steelers another guy who could stop the run, as well as put pressure on the opposing QBs.

4. Taylor Lewan

Pittsburgh could look to upgrade their offensive line by selecting Taylor Lewan. Lewan would be an upgrade at the tackle position and help protect franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger.

3. Mike Evans

If Mike Evans is available when the Steelers go on the clock, they should definitely consider him. He would be a great compliment to Antonio Brown. Brown is the speed guy and Evans could be the possession receiver and the red zone target.

2. Darqueze Dennard

I believe CB is the biggest position of need for Pittsburgh, and Dennard is one of the best in this year’s draft. He loves to play a physical game, and that style would fit perfectly with the Steelers.

1. Justin Gilbert

The best CB in this draft is Justin Gilbert. If Gilbert is available, Pittsburgh will likely jump at the chance to get him. Gilbert’s speed allows him to play aggressively and take chances.
