New York Giants Rumors: Signing DeSean Jackson Doesn’t Make Sense

DeSean Jackson

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The recent decision by the Philadelphia Eagles to cut ex-Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson will likely create a late NFL free agency scramble for teams still in need of wide receiver help. In terms of sheer talent, Jackson is easily superior to the other offerings at wide receiver in 2014 free agency.

Jackson uses his breakneck speed in a myriad of ways. He can outrun defenders on deep routes or use his nimbleness to turn screen passes into big yardage plays. He also poses as a potent threat in the return game, a reality New York Giants fans know too well from his game-winning punt return touchdown against New York in 2010.

The Giants would instantly benefit from having a playmaker like Jackson on the team roster. Jackson would instantly add a devastating component to offensive coordinator Ben Mcadoo’s scheme and keep Victor Cruz away from double teams.

As tempting as this hypothetical may be, the Giants would be unwise to pursue Jackson. The ex-Eagle has somewhat of a history as a malcontent, and although New York head coach Tom Coughlin has a knack for straightening out difficult players, the headache attached to Jackson might not make him worth it.

Also, Jackson was reportedly unhappy with the one-year, $10 million deal he received from the Eagles. The Giants flat out do not have the cap space to make that kind of deal. I also doubt that GM Jerry Reese has any inclination to give that kind of contract to any player not named Eli Manning.

Still, Giant fans should be excited about Jackson hitting free agency. Even though he won’t end up in New York, his departure from Philadelphia certainly dampens the dynamism of Chip Kelly’s offense.

Eli Manning Has Interesting Reaction To Broncos' Super Bowl Win

Eli Manning was captured on video making an interesting face when the Denver Broncos cemented their Super Bowl 50 win. The Internet firmly believes Eli is upset that Peyton now has two rings just like he does, but this is simply an overreaction. Eli was clearly nervous throughout the game, and his odd facial expressions are more indicative of a sign of relief than anything else.
