In somewhat surprising news from the NFL, DeSean Jackson has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles. It's been rumored that the WR has been on the trade block for awhile now, but most expected him to be dealt, rather than released. However, rumors of Jackson having gang ties recently emerged as well. Those rumors may have been the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back in Philly.
Here are five teams that could now make a run at the WR:
Jackson is from California, so any team in the Golden State could be in the running for him. I don't see the 49ers trying to sign him, but the Chargers could have interest. They're a piece or two away from contending for an AFC title, and a dynamic playmaker like Jackson would make Philip Rivers' life a lot easier.
Off-field concerns are at the root of Jackson's release from the Eagles. We all know the Patriots have a reputation of being able to control players with 'character issues' (for the most part), and we know that they need WRs. There's an outside chance the Pats could be interested in Jackson, if the price is right.
Here we have another Cali team that's in need of playmakers on offense. With the Raiders seemingly turning things around this offseason with numerous free agency moves, who's to say that they won't make a run at the WR? Jackson could be enticed to return home with the silver and black.
The Panthers need Jackson more than any other team. They've lost their top three pass-catchers from 2013 and Jackson could essentially replace Steve Smith. If Carolina isn't worried about Jackson off the field, they should definitely enter the sweepstakes.
New York was rumored to be the top trade destination for Jackson when he was on the block. Now that he's free to sign anywhere, I don't see why they wouldn't do their best to acquire him. With Michael Vick on their side, it's possible that the BIg Apple will be a little more desirable for the WR.
