The San Francisco 49ers have had a relatively quiet offseason and should look to bolster their roster through free agency. Plenty of free agents who can help put the 49ers over the top are still available. Here are five free agents the team should consider signing.

NaVorro Bowman may miss some significant time due to his torn ACL. In his absence, the 49ers need an inside linebacker to step in. Desmond Bishop is a seasoned veteran and an adequate substitute as Bowman recovers. When Bowman is finally healthy, Bishop would make a solid backup and add much-needed depth.

4. Santonio Holmes

Plagued by injuries the past two seasons, Holmes is an intriguing option. The 49ers already have a dangerous wide receiver duo in Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree. Holmes, who is well past his prime, would make a terrific third or fourth option. He has proven himself in the postseason, so regular season reps aren't essential.

3. Asante Samuel

The 49ers have a strong defense, but their secondary is susceptible. They did not re-sign Carlos Rogers so their depth at the CB position is below par. San Francisco's defensive front is so good that they don't need a top corner, which is why Asante Samuel would make a terrific signing. Samuel's best days are behind him, but his shortcomings won't be as much of a concern considering the talent on the field with him.

Terrell Thomas may be a better fit with the 49ers than Samuel is. Thomas is more physical and stronger. He's had experience in the playoffs and would flourish in San Francisco.

DeSean Jackson is from California and would be a terrific fit with the 49ers if they are willing to take the chance. San Francisco could use a speedy, outside receiver. It would be a great complement to the physicality of Boldin and Crabtree. Imagine having to cover Boldin, Crabtree, Jackson and Vernon Davis while Colin Kaepernick is scrambling and extending plays. It would make the 49ers instant favorites in the NFC.
