2014 NFL Draft: 5 Players Who The Denver Broncos Must Avoid

With free agency quieting down, the Denver Broncos now shift their focus to the NFL Draft, which is scheduled to begin on May 8. The team has had a successful free agency period by addressing some needs on both sides of the football, and the draft is a good way to continue that. However, there are players who do not fit those needs. Here are five prospects who I believe the Broncos should keep away from.

The Broncos will be looking to build their defense with young talent, but they should avoid the Notre Dame defensive tackle. Inconsistency was an issue for him during his junior year and if the Broncos want to win it all, they need all of their players to be consistent.

The secondary had some issues during the 2013 season and the Broncos took care of that issue with the signing of T.J. Ward and Aqib Talib. The Broncos will look to boost the secondary once more, but should stay clear of Isaiah Lewis. His size and lack of speed could be an issue, especially if he gets beat. The Broncos cannot afford to give up the long ball, so they should skip him at all costs.

3. Davante Adams

The Broncos will be looking to build their wide receiver depth with the departure of Eric Decker. Davante Adams would not be the ideal player. His lack of speed to get away from defenders is costly. He also has issues with fumbling as he tries to fight for extra yardage. This is one wideout the Broncos should not look at.

2. Christian Jones

While the team continues to build on defense, Christian Jones should be avoided. His lack of ability to find the football can be problematic and he needs to work on his leverage when it comes to engaging the offensive line. These two issues could be enough for the Broncos to skip him completely.

1. Gabe Jackson

The Broncos' front line should be set, but if they do decide to look for depth at the offensive line position, they should avoid Jackson at all costs. His inability to break down the defense could spell trouble for the running back trying to find a hole to run through. The biggest factor is his inability to redirect and change the course of a rusher in order to prevent a loss of yardage or a sack.
