The St. Louis Rams are clearly in need of some offensive upgrades. Depending on who you ask, they may have just gotten one. Kenny Britt has agreed to a one-year deal with team, which will of course reunite him with Jeff Fisher.

Britt has spent the last five seasons in Tennessee, but his time there was clearly up. He didn’t play many downs at all in 2013 and as a result, he only ended up with 96 yards receiving on the year.

Now he’s got a second chance in St. Louis with an incentive-based contract.

Worst case scenario for the Rams if this signing doesn’t work out, they’ll have to pay him $550,000. Best case scenario if he tears it up in 2014, they’ll have to pay him $2.9 million. I’m guessing he’ll end up somewhere in the middle, if he makes the team.

It’s never been a question of physical ability with the WR. It’s always been a matter of what’s going on between his ears. To this point, no one has been able to maximize his on-field contributions, while keeping his off-field persona in check. If there’s a man for the job, it’s definitely Jeff Fisher.

We’ll have to wait and see how Britt fits in with his new team, but if he’s smart, he’ll do everything he can to toe the company line. If he flops in St. Louis, his career could very well be over.

The Rams have nothing to lose and everything to gain by offering him a chance to make their final roster. When it comes to deals late in the free agency period, that’s the way to do business.
