At this time of year, there’s an abundance of rumors swirling around the 2014 NFL Draft. As of late, the rumors surrounding the Minnesota Vikings haven’t been too insane – mostly just speculation on what they’ll do with their first-round pick when May 8 arrives. I’m here, however, to look at the five most notable rumors and give my take.

With that in mind, here’s a look at five NFL Draft rumors about the Vikings you need to know.

According to Tony Pauline, Vikings’ offensive coordinator Norv Turner is “intrigued” by Boyd. While Boyd is far from a solve-all at quarterback, the Vikings could be targeting the Clemson product as a late-round option. The Vikings could also choose to take two quarterbacks during the draft, a strategy the Washington Redskins employed in 2012. At this point, Boyd could likely be had for a fifth-round pick.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk, Mettenberger would be a great fit for the Vikings, citing the vertical passing mentality of Turner. The LSU product has a big arm and the prototypical size of an NFL quarterback, but is coming off an ACL tear and has some character concerns worth noting. If the Vikings wait to pick a passer, though, Mettenberger could be a serious consideration on Day 2.

According to a report from Fox Sports, Barr is set to meet with the Vikings. While it doesn’t mean a lot at this point, it could be a sign that Minnesota is seriously considering spending their first-round pick on the raw pass rusher. While I’m no fan of Barr, there are plenty of people who would think that the high-risk, high-reward prospect is worth the gamble at No. 8. My guess is the Vikings are just doing their homework.

Khalil Mack could be their real first-round target

According to Tony Pauline, the Vikings are hoping to land Mack in the first round. Then again, just about every team should be wishing they could bring aboard the dynamic playmaker. As great as that sounds, chances are Mack won’t make it past the Raiders at No. 5. Unless the Vikings are planning on trading up, Mack might be out of the question for Zimmer and his rebuilt defense.

According to reports, the Vikings have shown serious interest in the Texas A&M gunslinger. However, during interviews with Manziel, Mike Zimmer admitted that some “flags” came up. The Vikings desperately need a new quarterback, and Manziel is an intriguing option, but can the team get past the off-field concerns that have some people doubting the polarizing prospect?
