Coming off of their first Super Bowl appearance since 1999, the Denver Broncos will be a force in the AFC once again. The team lost a few key players to free agency, made some huge moves themselves, and will look to do more in the draft. However, in order to repeat as AFC Champs and maybe even become Super Bowl Champs, they will need some up-and-coming players to step up.
Here are five players who must break out for the Broncos in 2014.
Coming off a scary injury in 2013, Derek Wolfe will be entering his third year with the Broncos. He will most likely be part of a new remodeled defense that will look to improve in 2014. Wolfe will be one of the key players on the defensive line and must make an impact in order to help the team go far.
When Champ Bailey suffered a lingering foot injury, Chris Harris was asked to step up. It is safe to say that he did so from the first game until his untimely injury in the divisional round in 2013. Now teamed up with Aqib Talib, look for Harris to have perhaps the best season of his young career during the 2014 season.
Coming from the Pittsburgh Steelers by free agency, Emmanuel Sanders will look to fill in Eric Decker's shoes during the 2014 season. He should flourish with Peyton Manning throwing the football and should contribute well on special teams as well. Look for Sanders to have a career year with his new team.
Terrance Knighton emerged late in the 2013 season for the Broncos' defense, especially in the AFC Championship game when he sacked Tom Brady on a crucial play. With a new and improved defense, there is no doubt that Knighton will break out and be one of the stars of the defense in 2014.
With the departure of Knowshon Moreno, Montee Ball has some pretty big shoes to fill in 2014. He had a solid second half in 2013, but he will be in a bigger role in only his second year in the pros. He should be able to handle the pressure well and should be the feature back for the Broncos. The new role should help him break out in a big way.
