Coming off a huge Super Bowl XLVIII win, the Seattle Seahawks are shouldering massive expectations heading into the 2014 campaign. They didn’t lose too much talent via free agency, and will look to make some significant additions via the 2014 NFL Draft. To enjoy similar success this season, though, they’ll need a few young players to step up.

Here’s a look at five up-and-coming Seahawks who must have breakout seasons in 2014.

One of the pleasant surprises of the 2013 draft class, Bowie came on as a reliable starter in the middle of the season. He struggled mightily in the playoffs and was replaced after the Divisional Round, but still offers plenty of intrigue moving forward. With Breno Giacomini gone, there’s a good chance Bowie could be the Seahawks’ starting right tackle of 2014. His consistency needs to improve, but the former seventh-rounder has a bright future.

In his rookie 2012 season, Scruggs showed outstanding potential as a pass-rushing specialist. Unfortunately, an ACL tear during the offseason forced him to miss the entire 2013 campaign, landing him on the reserve/PUP list. Now back to full health, Scruggs is expected to be a significant part of the Seahawks defensive end rotation. Look for a breakout season from the promising young defensive end.

Another injury casualty, Simon spent the entire 2013 campaign on the reserve/PUP list with a fractured foot. Prior to the injury, many considered him to be a part of the Seahawks’ plan in the secondary. With both Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond departed via free agency, Simon will have the opportunity to assert himself as a significant piece to the puzzle. His physical playing style and athleticism make him an ideal fit in Seattle.

Considered by many to be a raw running back with elite potential, Michael might finally get an opportunity to show his stuff this season. The former second-round pick spent most of his rookie season on the bench, but has generated a lot of buzz throughout the organization due to his elite physical tools. Even with Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin ahead of him on the depth chart, the Seahawks can’t keep him on the bench forever.

For years, the Seahawks have been looking for a tight end capable of being a difference-maker in the passing game. Zach Miller has held down the starting spot for three seasons, but might have to hand over the role to Willson in 2014. The former fifth-rounder excelled in limited action last season, showing above average receiving abilities and a knack for picking up nice chunks of yards. If Willson can improve his blocking, he’ll be the starter.
