It is never too early to start thinking about the future of the Denver Broncos‘ franchise.
With the NFL Draft set to begin in early May, the team has a lot of decisions to make on what players to draft and positions that were not addressed in free agency. However, there is one position that the Broncos probably will not look at in the draft but provides quite a bit of intrigue.
We all know by now that Peyton Manning only has a few years left in the league. Once he retires the Broncos will have a lot of questions at the quarterback position. Does the team go with Brock Osweiler as the face of the franchise? Maybe they can consider Zac Dysert, whom the Broncos drafted last year with their seventh round pick. However, there is no denying that the quarterback class is quite intriguing this year with players such as Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater to name a few.
One name that has been linked to the Broncos among the quarterbacks in the draft is Alabama‘s A.J. McCarron. What is intriguing is that McCarron has a similar skill-set to Manning, and most analysts believe that someone like McCarron could succeed well in the offensive system that the Broncos have. This could also turn out to be something along the lines of what Aaron Rodgers went through before he became the starter for the Green Bay Packers. It is believed that McCarron could learn under Manning for the time being until he is given the reigns when the future Hall of Fame quarterback does retire.
It would be interesting to see this take place, but the likelihood of it happening is very rare, especially when the Broncos drafted two quarterbacks in the last two years already. One way I could see it happening is if the team trades one of the backups during the draft. There was a rumor before free agency hit that the Houston Texans were interested in Osweiler, but those rumors were squashed quickly. If the team is serious about drafting a quarterback for the third straight year, then that means one of them is probably on his way out the door.
Stranger things have happened on draft day, but this is one that I just do not see happening.
