Jacksonville Jaguars' Second Day NFL Draft Targets

Head coach Gus Bradley and GM David Caldwell have the Jacksonville Jaguars headed in the right direction. The team had a great free agency period, and will look to finish the offseason strong in the draft. That said, the Jaguars have talent deficiencies at important positions that must be taken care of in this draft. A lot depends on who they take with the 3rd overall pick, but here are five players the Jags should target on Day 2 of the draft.

5. OG Dakota Dozier

Any prospect from a small school like Furman will have a lot of questions. That said, Dakota Dozier is a very talented player who has the skills to be a high-level NFL guard. Dozier has great technique and footwork that always allows him to be in the right spot. He is very quick inside and has adequate strength. The Jaguars have a need at the OG position, and Dozier would be a great 3rd round target.

4. QB Zach Mettenberger

The Jaguars have arguably the worst QB situation in the NFL. They could certainly take care of the position in the first round, but if they do not, Zach Mettenberger will be an obvious 3rd round target. Inconsistency and injuries are an obvious concern, but Mettenberger has the raw ability to become a star in this league.

3. CB Kyle Fuller

The Jaguars have decent depth at cornerback, but they do not have anybody who even has the potential to be a No. 1. Kyle Fuller would give them just that. He has nice size (6-foot-0, 190 pounds), great length, impressive athleticism, and incredible ball skills. Fuller is an obvious target for the Jaguars in the early second round.

2. WR Jordan Matthews

With Justin Blackmon, Cecil Shorts and Ace Sanders, the Jaguars have some nice upside at the WR position. That said, all of those players represent a ton of downside as well. Jordan Matthew may not have the ceiling of other wide receivers in this class, but he is a solid player who is very likely to be a long-time contributor. Matthews would help solidify the Jaguars' WR core.

1. QB Derek Carr

It is starting to seem unlikely that Derek Carr reaches the second round, but if he does, and the Jaguars do not take a QB in the first round, Carr will be an obvious target for the team. Carr has nice athleticism, is a great leader and an incredibly strong arm. His inconsistent accuracy is an obvious concern, but his upside is huge. The Jaguars find their potential QB of the future if Carr is available in the early second round.
