The offseason has been a very eventful one for the Chiefs so far, but it has been for all the wrong reasons. Several core players who helped turn the team around in 2013 became unrestricted free agents. Those players all found new homes during free agency, as the Chiefs were unable or did not attempt to re-sign any of them. The remaining team needs were never addressed. These are the five mistakes.

The Chiefs were missing another dynamic offensive weapon in 2013 outside of Jamaal Charles and at times Dwayne Bowe. The best fit in free agency would have been for them to sign Andre Roberts. Roberts possesses dynamic skills after the catch and is a perfect fit for the west coast offense that Andy Reid runs.

4. Not Extending Eric Berry

Eric Berry proved two things in 2013 -- he proved that he is fully recovered from prior injury and that he still capable of being one of the most dominant safeties in the league. Berry is a leader on the defense and he will only get better. Extending his contract to keep him a Chief for many years will set a great example for Berry and every member of the Chiefs' core. Also, it will assure that he doesn't leave when he hits the open market.

Brandon Flowers had a very disappointing 2013 season, grading out as one of the worst cornerbacks in the league according to Pro Football Focus. This surprised many observers who have watched him string together consecutive strong seasons in a row. The answer is simple, however. Flowers is not a fit for the defensive scheme. He still has plenty of talent and the Chief should have traded him to a team that fits his skill-set.

Jon Asamoah was one of the better guards in the league in 2013, grading out as a top-15 guard overall according to Pro Football Focus. Many observers credit him for opening up major lanes for Jamaal Charles, who enjoyed his career best season in 2013.

The Chiefs were able to sign Schwartz cheaply when he was a free agent because of his past injury history. Since then, he has been healthy and productive. Since moving to guard, he has graded out as the sixth-best guard in the entire NFL on a per-snap basis according to Pro Football Focus. The interior line is in shambles following the loss of Schwartz and Asamoah.
