The New York Giants, in an effort to return to championship-caliber form after a disappointing 7-9 campaign, will be looking to upgrade at several positions during the 2014 NFL Draft. Here are five rumors surrounding the club that you need to know as the draft approaches.

Sitting at pick No. 12 overall, it will be difficult for the Giants to nab one of the class' top pass rushers or offensive tackles. To acquire an elite prospect like Khalil Mack or Jake Matthews, the Giants will need to trade up into the top 10.

On the other hand, the Giants could just as easily trade back in the first round. In all likelihood, the player New York selects with the No. 12 overall choice would still be available later in the round. If the Giants can trade back and still land their target, they'll have a successful first day.

Hakeem Nicks, who accumulated 4,622 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns over the past five seasons for the Giants, is now a member of the Indianapolis Colts. The Giants will likely target a receiver in an immensely deep class at the position during the draft's first three rounds.

The Giants need help at tackle and guard. With that said, what better prospect to land in the first round than Zack Martin, who is capable of playing on the outside or on the interior? If the Giants are unable to move up or down in the first round, Martin would be an excellent addition to their front as an athletic and tough lineman who can play multiple positions in multiple schemes.

As much as the Giants would like to solidify their offensive line during the first round, a talented pass catcher like North Carolina's Eric Ebron might be too tempting to pass up. Ebron is fast, athletic and possesses a large catch radius. Some argue he's destined to join the likes of Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis as an elite tight end in the NFL. If so, Ebron would be a coup for the Giants in round one.
