The Denver Broncos are coming off of their first AFC Championship since the 1998 season and have a lot of motivation to succeed even further. The Broncos have seven picks in the draft this year, one for each round. With the Broncos in win now mode, there are some prospects who can help the team with that goal. With that in mind, here are five names that fans need to know heading into May's draft.
The Ohio State linebacker is one of many players that mock drafts have the Broncos taking and for good reason. I've stated that he has the abilities to force pressure from the outside and never gives up on pursuit of the ball carrier. He is one player who could be of great help to the team bringing back the "Orange Crush" defense, especially if Von Miller is on the opposite side of Shazier.
A guard some mock drafts have the Broncos taking, Xavier Su'a Filo would be a great alternative if Shazier is gone by the time the Broncos are on the clock. His ability to move off the line of scrimmage and pass protect is great. With the Broncos losing some key linemen, Su'a Filo would be a great fit and should be known to Broncos fans.
While the Broncos did fail to address the middle linebacker position, drafting Chris Borland would fill that need. He can make the middle linebacker position a competition with Nate Irving and Steven Johnson. His ability to make a break through the line and cover the pass make him a sought after player in the draft.
There are rumors circling that the Broncos might take a quarterback. While it may look like Brock Osweiler will be the future, it wouldn't hurt to give Zac Dysert some competition. Brett Smith's ability to move in the pocket gives him the ability to make plays on the move and extend it as well. A great work ethic is his best trait and something that John Elway would enjoy having on the team.
The Broncos improved their secondary with the additions of Aqib Talib and T.J. Ward, but they could use some more depth at the corner position. Kyle Fuller's ability to read routes is quite remarkable as well as stopping the run. Having played a various positions in college makes this corner someone who could help the Broncos in the long run.
