The 2014 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the San Diego Chargers will need to upgrade their roster in hopes of becoming a legitimate Super Bowl contender. There are plenty of players who can help the Chargers from day one. Here are five names that fans need to be aware of.
Jason Verrett is a player who the Chargers can target with their first or second pick, depending on when he is available. He is undersized but possesses a competitive attitude that shows on the field. The Chargers need all the help they can get at cornerback.
Bradley Roby has been rising up draft boards and is one of the better cornerbacks in the draft. He has great speed and is extremely talented. He does have character issues but should mature as he progresses through the league.
The Chargers would love for Darqueze Dennard to fall to them. He lacks top-end speed but is physical and would represent a huge upgrade at the cornerback position. He was one of the top defensive players in the country last season.
The Chargers will need to target a receiver at some point in the draft, and Kelvin Benjamin might still be around on the second day. He is a huge target who would help take the pressure off of Keenan Allen and give Philip Rivers another red zone threat.
Louis Nix is arguably the best defensive lineman in the draft and the likely top choice for the Chargers. He has a massive frame and would help free up the young linebackers to make more plays. His disruptive ability would give the Chargers a threat on the line that they have not had in years.
