The Philadelphia Eagles go into the 2014 NFL Draft with a sudden need at the wide receiver position and a plethora of needs on the defensive side of the ball. The real question for Howie Roseman and company is which direction will they go and who will be the best player available? Let's take a look at five dark horse candidates for the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round.
The Philadelphia Eagles need a youth injection at the cornerback position and Bradley Roby would give them that. The feisty, play-making cornerback reminds some of Asante Samuel. The ball hawk would be a nice long-term solution at corner.
The Philadelphia Eagles could use a boost at the wide receiver position after parting ways with DeSean Jackson. Kelvin Benjamin would give them that and then some. His size, athleticism and skill on the outside should have Chip Kelly salivating.
Chip Kelly loves long, angular athletes especially on defense. Kony Ealy is the prototypical outside linebacker. He has a huge frame at 6-foot-4, and can fly off the edge. If he is there and the best available athlete at 22, you can bet Kelly and company will pounce on him.
The Philadelphia Eagles desperately need a guy that can hit the big play and stretch the field after moving on from DeSean Jackson and Odell Beckham Jr. may be the most explosive athlete in this draft. He has solid size, and can straight up fly with the ball in his hands. Expect the Eagles to give Beckham Jr. a serious look at 22.
It would be a dream scenario for Anthony Barr to slide to the Eagles at 22. In a more likely scenario, if he falls to the 13-15 range expect the Eagles to get aggressive in moving up for Barr. He is the blue print of what Chip Kelly wants on defense. A defender who can cover, rush the passer and make plays all over the field. Barr would be an absolute slam dunk for the Birds.
