The final perk from the Robert Griffin III heist is set to pay off for the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft in the form of the No. 2 overall pick. There has been plenty of talk about the Rams shopping the selection, but the real action will unfold on draft night depending on how things fall. Here are five best case scenarios for the Rams in there attempt to maximize the potential of the pick.

With two first-round picks and a cache of draft choices that rivals the Rams, the Browns could afford to move up and grab a playmaker like Sammy Watkins to take their offense to the next level. This would slide the Rams down to No. 4 where they could potentially score another trade or take their franchise left tackle of the future in either Greg Robinson or Jake Matthews depending on their preference.

Moving down with the Falcons would fetch a bit larger return which is why this scenario ranks a bit higher. Atlanta may not want to risk missing out on improving their offensive line with a blue-chip prospect, and moving up for a guy like Jake Matthews or Greg Robinson could fit their needs. This deal could net the Rams the No. 37 overall pick and a second-rounder in 2015 while still landing a great player at No. 6 or possibly moving down again.

This idea is growing on me a bit with the recent rise in perception of Khalil Mack. The Rams just added Alec Ogletree a year ago on one side of the linebacking corps, and with James Laurinaitis in the middle, Mack would give them one of the most complete front sevens in all of football. This type of move would make passing on a potential franchise tackle or playmaking wideout much easier since defense is where this squad really needs to improve.

The reason this trade down ranks higher than the others is the potential return it would yield. The No. 2 overall selection is worth 2,600 points on the trade value chart while the Lions’ No. 10 pick is worth 1,300. A deal would likely require Detroit to cough up the No. 44 overall pick in Round 2 as well as a first-round selection in 2015. At No. 10 the Rams could still fill their biggest need with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and go on their merry way.

If by some magical stroke of luck the Houston Texans pass on Jadeveon Clowney, the phone will be ringing off the hook. There’s no question the Falcons are in play for a move up regardless of Clowney’s availability, but if he’s still around it could warrant an RG3-like return in a trade. Though it remains unlikely, there’s still no question the Rams would be absolutely thrilled to have the chance to extort another franchise for many years to come.
