For whatever reason, Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers are shopping the services of their 2012 second-round pick LaMichael James. The following five teams should consider adding him to their rosters before the 2014 NFL Draft opens. He could be an asset as either a change-of-pace back or a special teams contributor who possesses 4.45 speed in the 40-yard dash.
The Eagles strengthened an already very deep backfield in March by trading for Darren Sproles, but injuries are a big factor in the NFL. Only James' former Oregon Ducks coach Chip Kelly would know best how to utilize his skill set for the Eagles' offense if his team gets bitten by the injury bug in 2014.
Tying into the loss of Sproles in New Orleans' backfield, James could be an apt replacement and a decent target for QB Drew Brees in third-down situations.
With Ray Rice's regression last year and his questionable personal life, it could not hurt the Ravens head coach to call his brother and see what it would take to put James in purple for the upcoming season. Unless of course they both know something that everyone without the surname Harbaugh does not know about LaMichael.
The new sheriff in town, Bill O'Brien, is looking to rebuild the offense. QB Matt Schaub is gone, and the team will likely draft a QB in 2014. RB Ben Tate has also departed. With three sixth-round picks and two each in the 4th and 7th rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft, O'Brien has a surplus of picks. He could add James as a key building block for the future and insurance towards the aging Arian Foster and Andre Brown. Also, James grew up in Texas.
Jaguars fans have not had a playoff game to cheer about since the 2007 season. Franchise player RB Maurice Jones-Drew is headed to the West Coast after signing a three-year deal with the Oakland Raiders. Acquiring James, a former All-American and Doak Walker award winner, who once anchored one of the most prolific college scoring offense's in NCAA history would create some buzz around Jacksonville. They have 11 draft picks this year.
