The 2013 season didn’t quite go as planned for the Minnesota Vikings. Coming off a tremendously successful 2012 campaign where the franchise returned to the playoffs, hopes were very high in the Twin Cities last fall. The Vikings ultimately faltered on their way to a 5-10-1 record, but their road back to the playoffs was a very tough one in 2013.

We all know that schedules play a big role in teams’ success. In 2012 Minnesota simply didn’t have as tough of a slate as it did in 2013. Add a few player departures and injuries to the equation, and you have a 10-6 team that falls to 5-10-1.

So without further ado, here’s a look at the Vikings 2014 regular season schedule:

Week 1 – @ St. Louis Rams, Sunday, September 7 at Noon CT

Week 2 – vs. New England Patriots, Sunday, September 14 at Noon CT

Week 3 – @ New Orleans Saints, Sunday, September 21 at Noon CT

Week 4 – vs. Atlanta Falcons, Sunday, September 28 at 3:25 PM CT

Week 5 – @ Green Bay Packers, Thursday, October 2 at 7:25 PM CT

Week 6 – vs. Detroit Lions, Sunday, October 12 at Noon CT

Week 7 – @ Buffalo Bills, Sunday, October 19 at Noon CT

Week 8 – @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sunday, October 26 at Noon CT

Week 9 – vs. Washington Redskins, Sunday, November 2 at Noon CT

Week 10 – BYE

Week 11 – @ Chicago Bears, Sunday, November 16 at Noon CT

Week 12 – vs. Green Bay Packers, Sunday, November 23 at Noon CT

Week 13 – vs. Carolina Panthers, Sunday, November 30 at Noon CT

Week 14 – vs. New York Jets, Sunday, December 7 at Noon CT

Week 15 – @ Detroit Lions, Sunday, December 14 at Noon CT

Week 16 – @ Miami Dolphins, Sunday, December 21 at Noon CT

Week 17 – vs. Chicago Bears, Sunday, December 28 at Noon CT

So as you can see the Vikings are in for a difficult start in 2014, just like in 2013. Rams, Pats, Saints, Falcons and Packers in weeks one through five is a fairly brutal way to kick things off, as all of those teams are expected to at least make a playoff push.

The rest of the slate isn’t bad and the last five games should all be winnable contests for the purple and gold.
