Dallas Cowboys Schedule 2014: Predicting the Outcome of Every Game

2014 will be a make-or-break year for the Dallas Cowboys. Jason Garrett needs to make the playoffs or he will most likely be fired, regardless of what Jerry Jones says. The Cowboys didn't have a lot of cap space to sign quality free agents, so it will be up to Jerry and co. to work their magic in the draft. Here are my game-by-game predictions for the Cowboys in 2014.

Week 1. HOME vs. San Francisco 49ers (Win)

The San Francisco 49ers are a better team than the Cowboys. The reason why I have the Cowboys winning this game is simple. The 49ers will likely be without Navorro Bowman and Aldon Smith. That's why it's best to play the 49ers early in the 2014 season. Bowman is recovering from an ACL injury he suffered in the NFC Championship game and Smith will be suspended from the league for a few games.

Prediction: Cowboys 27-21 49ers (1-0)

Week 2. At Tennessee Titans (Win)

Week 2. At Tennessee Titans (Win)

After a big Week 1 win against the 49ers, the Cowboys will travel north to play the Tennessee Titans. Despite changing the regime, the Titans haven't done much in the offseason. They lost their best secondary player and they released their best offensive weapon. The Titans lack talent, simple as that. In my opinion, the Titans are in the running for the first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Prediction: Cowboys 23-10 Titans (2-0)

Week 3. At St. Louis Rams (Win)

Week 3. At St. Louis Rams (Win)

Yep, another win for the Cowboys. In Garrett's tenure, the Cowboys have had a consistency of being inconsistent. That being said, the Cowboys could very well lose two of their first three games. But, the St. Louis Rams aren't that good of a team. They lack explosiveness on offense, and the Cowboys shellacked the Rams last year in Dallas. This should be a win for the Cowboys.

Prediction: Cowboys 30-13 Rams (3-0)

Week 4. HOME vs. New Orleans Saints (Loss)

Week 4. HOME vs. New Orleans Saints (Loss)

The New Orleans Saints will be Dallas' first real test in the new season. The Saints have one of the NFL's best offenses, even without Darren Sproles. The Saints are a turf team, meaning they play better and faster on turf. Drew Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and the Cowboys are awful in pass coverage. Fans around the NFL will think the Cowboys are pretenders after this game.

Prediction: Saints 34-14 Cowboys (3-1)

Week 5. HOME vs. Houston Texans (Win)

Week 5. HOME vs. Houston Texans (Win)

Every four years, the two Texas teams meet. In 2013, the Houston Texans were absolutely horrible. But, things seem to be going in the right direction for the Texans. Bill O'Brien is a smart football mind and the Texans have the no. 1 overall pick in this year's draft. I see the Cowboys pulling this one out late, sending the Texans on a sad, two-hour plane ride home.

Prediction: Cowboys 20-17 Texans (4-1)

Week 6. At Seattle Seahawks (Loss)

Week 6. At Seattle Seahawks (Loss)

Even after losing some key players in free agency, the Seattle Seahawks are still the best team in the NFL. Seattle's defense is dominant and their offense can keep the chains moving. The Seahawks are also the best team at home in the NFL. That spells trouble for the Cowboys. This one will be ugly.

Prediction: Seahawks 31-13 Cowboys (4-2)

Week 7. HOME vs. New York Giants (Win)

Week 7. HOME vs. New York Giants (Win)

Dallas' first game in the division will be against the rival New York Giants. Eli Manning had the worst season of his career in 2013, but the Giants had a good offseason, bringing in players like Walter Thurmond III, Geoff Schwartz, and Rashaad Jennings. This game will be a dog fight, but the home crowd will rally the Cowboys in the end.

Prediction: Cowboys 24-23 Giants (5-2)

Week 8. HOME vs. Washington Redskins (Win)

Week 8. HOME vs. Washington Redskins (Win)

Despite not having a first-round pick in this year's draft, the Washington Redskins improved drastically in the offseason. The Redskins signed DeSean Jackson, Andre Roberts, Jason Hatcher, and Ryan Clark. The Redskins will be a tough out in the NFC East. Remember that Robert Griffin III's surgically-repaired knee will be stronger next year. I think the Cowboys take this one.

Prediction: Cowboys 23-20 Redskins (6-2)

Week 9. HOME vs. Arizona Cardinals (Loss)

Week 9. HOME vs. Arizona Cardinals (Loss)

Bruce Arians had a successful season in his first year as a head coach, despite not making the playoffs in 2013. Led by their gritty defense, the Cardinals finished the season with a record of 10-6. In 2014, the Cardinals will be looking to make the playoffs. Dallas' offense will have trouble scoring against Arizona's defense. This one has the makings of a low-scoring game.

Prediction: Cardinals 17-13 Cowboys (6-3)

Week 10. At (in London) Jacksonville Jaguars (Win)

Week 10. At (in London) Jacksonville Jaguars (Win)

I'm a big fan of what Gus Bradley is doing in Jacksonville, but the reality is that the Jaguars a still one or two years away from being competitive. In London, the Cowboys will get the opportunity to make their European fans happy. The Cowboys have more weapons than the Jaguars, and that will be the difference.

Prediction: Cowboys 27-13 Jaguars (7-3)

Week 11. BYE WEEK

After traveling to London the week before, the Cowboys will head home to have a chance to rest up before the harder portion of their schedule.

Week 12. At New York Giants (Win)

Week 12. At New York Giants (Win)

After their bye week last year, the Cowboys headed to New Jersey to play against the Giants in a freezing cold game. On a late drive by Romo, the Cowboys would beat the Giants to a score of 24-21. That game would ultimately end New York's chances of making the playoffs. The Giants lost a lot of talent on the defensive line, and I think DeMarco Murray could be in for a big game.

Prediction: Cowboys 20-17 Giants (8-3)

Week 13. HOME vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Loss)

Week 13. HOME vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Loss)

To me, the team to beat in this division is the Philadelphia Eagles. After a rough start to the 2013 season, the Eagles ended the season on a hot streak. Chip Kelly's offense worked in its first year and the Eagles brought back the playmakers to make it work again. They also added Darren Sproles, a player who make this offense even tougher to defend. The Eagles will pull away late.

Prediction: Eagles 24-21 Cowboys (8-4)

Week 14. At Chicago Bears (Loss)

Week 14. At Chicago Bears (Loss)

In 2013, the Cowboys traveled to Chicago late in December and got blown out by Josh McCown's Bears. After the game, members of the Bears said the Cowboys wanted no part of the cold. With Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, the Bears have two stud receivers who will both have big nights against this secondary. Many NFL fans will say the December swoon is in full circle.

Prediction: Bears 31-21 Cowboys (8-5)

Week 15. At Philadelphia Eagles (Loss)

Week 15. At Philadelphia Eagles (Loss)

I'm not a fan when the NFL schedules division rivals to play twice in three weeks. Once again, I have the Cowboys losing to the Eagles. It will be another cold game for the Cowboys, and Philadelphia's running game will have a large carry load. LeSean McCoy is a notorious Cowboy killer, and he will have a big game in this one.

Prediction: Eagles 27-21 Cowboys (8-6)

Week 16. HOME vs. Indianapolis Colts (Win)

This game will be a fun one for me. It will be in late December, but the two dome teams will be playing inside. Andrew Luck is a terrific quarterback and he will have a lot of success in his career. The knock on him is that he throws a lot of interceptions. The Cowboys will take advantage of that, and I see the Cowboys winning in a shootout.

Prediction: Cowboys 34-31 (9-6)

Week 17. At Washington Redskins (Win)

At this point in the season, I think the Cowboys will be 9-6 and the Eagles will be 8-7. With a win against the Redskins, the Cowboys would be getting ready for their first playoff appearance in four years. I don't think the Redskins will be that good in 2014, but they will make this game a tough one and try to play spoiler at home against their hated, division rival.

Prediction: Cowboys 27-24 Redskins (10-6)
