Frank Caliendo As Jon Gruden Talking To Jon Gruden Is Awkward
Frank Caliendo is dang good at his job as an impressionist. Some call him the best in the business at what he does. ESPN is a company that likely shares this view, as evidenced by his numerous appearances on its network.
Jon Gruden is of course one of Caliendo’s famous impressions, so you knew it was only to be a matter of time before the worldwide leader put the two together in the same room. What better place to do it than at Gruden’s QB camp?
I don’t know about you, but that was just a little too awkward.
Caliendo does one heck of a Gruden, but can that really sit well with the former coach? It seems unlikely. The comedian is basically throwing his whole real-life schtick in his face. Sure, that’s what an impression is, but that doesn’t mean one party isn’t offended.
Gruden probably respects Caliendo and ESPN probably pays him enough not to care. But if the circumstances were different, the funny man may have taken one on the chin. That would be truly hilarious. Gruden just freaking out on him and popping him square in face.
A lot of people can do a Jon Gruden impression. He’s pretty easy to imitate. But to do one to his face would just be plain awkward. Caliendo had to feel odd at some points during QB camp, even though he was just doing his job and collecting some more money from the mothership.
It would be great to find out what Gruden really thinks of the impression.
