The reason I have chosen Su’a-Filo at No. 31 for the Broncos is because of the team’s need at the offensive line position. As I have stated in a previous article, the Broncos are going to key in on protecting Peyton Manning. The Broncos have an offensive line that was harassed in Super Bowl 48 and is dealing with the loss of Zane Beadles to free agency and Chris Kuper to retirement.
Su’a-Filo is a draft prospect that can become an instant starter right off the bat for the Broncos. He is quick off the snap, which will allow him to gain the initial advantage against whomever he ends up matching up against. His physical build is great as well, allowing him to further keep the defender away from the ball carrier or the quarterback. He is almost like a human anchor when it comes to blocking a defender, which is something that the Broncos offensive line could really use. His ability to also shred the defensive line and get to linebackers is remarkable.
He is the offensive lineman who has shown that he is ready to take the next step to the professional level. While there are some elements to his game that could still use some work, Su’a-Filo is perhaps the most complete lineman available in the draft. The defense will be a key focus for the Broncos, but they should draft the best player they can early on to help the line protect Manning, because his health is going to be key in what they hope will be another shot for the title.
Drafting Su’a-Filo will be another step towards that goal.
