Brandin Cooks Philadelphia Eagles Mock Draft

With the number 22 overall pick the Philadelphia Eagles select Brandin Cooks, wide receiver from Oregon State.

This pick seems like a no-brainer to me. With the loss of DeSean Jackson, the Eagles desperately need a field stretcher. A guy that can take the top off of a defense. There is no better player in the draft to fill that role than the explosive and electric Cooks.

Cooks put up monster numbers in college despite seeing double and sometimes triple coverage. His numbers at the NFL scouting combine including the all important 40 yard dash were actually better across the board than Jackson’s in 2008.

He is also a more thickly built player, so he is more equipped to take punishment over the middle for a guy his size than the diminutive Jackson. This is a classic example of a player being the best available on the board and filling a need.

The Eagles need a little more down field juice in their offense. Cooks could step in and give them that day 1. While some rookies take a while I believe Cooks’ speed, athleticism, and dynamic ability in the open field will translate to Chip Kelly’s offense almost right away.

Great offenses now have 3 and 4 solid wide receivers. After the subtractions of Jackson and veteran Jason Avant the Eagles only have two proven commodities at the receiver position in Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin who is returning from injury.

Receiver is a must. A guy like Cooks who could do damage both down the field and be a terror inside in the slot would be a perfect fit for this run and gun offense. Cooks would be a slam dunk pick at 22 for the Eagles.
