During draft season, everyone has certain players they hope their favorite team drafts. There’s a certain excitement when you think of the top players playing for your team. On the other side of the spectrum, there are certain players you hope your team has enough sense to pass on. Here are five players you should hope the 49ers don’t draft.

With all the legal troubles Aldon Smith has been having, he could be facing a hefty suspension. Dee Ford is a 3-4 outside linebacker and someone the 49ers would be able to trade up for. This would be less than ideal for a few reasons: they would have to trade picks to get him, Corey Lemonier is more than capable of filling in for any substantial time, and Ford’s stock is only as high as it is because of his Senior Bowl performance.

Ahmad Dixon is the hard-hitting strong safety out of Baylor. The 49ers did just lose Donte Whitner, another hard-hitting strong safety, but the similarities end there. Dixon is often too aggressive to the point he misses the play. He also got picked on in coverage. I don't see Dixon ever turning into a top-level starter in the NFL, and because of that, it would be bad news if he was the 49ers’ answer to Whitner’s departure.

There are a lot of mock drafts out there that have the 49ers taking a defensive lineman in the first round. Louis Nix III or any other defensive lineman in the first round would be terrible. Defensive line isn't an immediate need for the 49ers, so drafting one in the first doesn't make much sense, especially when you realize how few roster spots they have open.

Wide receiver is one of the 49ers’ biggest needs in this draft. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved up in the first to get the one they want or if they just took one at 30. But they need a speedy receiver to take the top off of defenses. Adams is not that. He is a younger version of Michael Crabtree, but the 49ers already have that type of receiver — his name is Michael Crabtree. Adams is very good, but not the type of receiver the 49ers need.

Bradley Roby is extremely high on a lot of people’s lists. To me, he is one of the most overvalued players in this draft. If you watch his 2013 tape, he got picked on almost every game. He relies so much on his speed that he lets receivers get away with things and assumes he can make up for it with his speed. That's not the case. If the 49ers were to take him in the first round, they would be getting terrible value.
