5 Worst-Case Scenarios for Cleveland Browns' First-Round Draft Pick

The Cleveland Browns head into the 2014 NFL Draft with a stockpile of picks, two of which are in the first round. With new GM Ray Farmer and first-time head coach Mike Pettine, the Browns look to pull themselves out of the AFC North basement and change the team's reputation in the league. With plenty of holes to fill on both sides of the ball, these are five scenarios Cleveland needs to avoid in this year's draft.

The Browns need to hit on both of their first-round picks. Brandin Cooks is a tough, solid receiver, but with the offseason signings of Andrew Hawkins, Nate Burleson and third-year speedster Travis Benjamin, the Browns have too many needs to grab another undersized slot receiver, even if it is at No. 26 overall.

The past hasn’t been kind to the Browns with their late first-round draft picks. It’d be a shame to see them waste another first-round pick like they did with Brandon Weeden and Brady Quinn. Bridgewater has a decent skill set, but his disappointing pro-day performance makes him a risky pick for a position the Browns are in desperate need of.

As with Bridgewater, it would be a shame to reach on another first-round pick for a player the Browns would be able to get in the second or third round.

2. Ryan Shazier- LB

The Browns are in need of a game changer at middle linebacker. With the addition of veteran Karlos Dansby, Cleveland could use a long-term solution in the middle of their defense. With that said, Shazier lacks pass rushing ability the Browns are in need of, and it’s going to take some time for his game to transition to the NFL.

If Johnny Manziel and Sammy Watkins are off the board for the Browns at No. 4, they can’t reach to try and make something out of what isn’t there. The team has too many holes to fill, and missing on yet another quarterback could be costly for both first-time GM Ray Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine. If the Browns decide to take a quarterback with either first-round pick, they have to hit on their selection.
