Jacksonville Jaguars Schedule 2014: Predicting the Outcome of Every Game

Jacksonville Jaguars Schedule 2014: Predicting the Outcome of Every Game

Though the Jacksonville Jaguars finished with one of the worst records in the NFL in 2013 at 4-12, the Jaguars will enter the 2014 season with higher expectations. The franchise finished the season with four wins in eight games after a 0-8 start to the season. What should we expect from the Jaguars as the 2014 season develops?

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of five games the team will play against playoff opponents from 2013. With how strong Chip Kelly's offense is, led by dynamic offensive playmakers such as LeSean McCoy and Riley Cooper, it's hard to envision the Jaguars coming out with a victory in Philly in Week 1. Mark up the season opener as a loss for the Jags.

Outcome: Loss (0-1)

Week 2: at Washington Redskins (Loss)

The Washington Redskins are a huge a question mark. A lot of their success in 2014 will hinge on the health of Robert Griffin III and his developing chemistry with newcomer DeSean Jackson at wide receiver. Because the Jaguars open up the season with two away games versus NFC East opponents, it will be tough for the Jags to win in Washington. Expect a close one, but the Redskins will edge the Jags due to home-field advantage.

Outcome: Loss (0-2)

Week 3 : vs. Indianapolis Colts (Win)

Though this seems like a long shot at the moment, considering the Indianapolis Colts swept the season series with the Jaguars in 2013, I'm going out on a limb and predicting the Jags nip the Colts in their home opener. The Jags' defense will disrupt the timing and rhythm of the Colts' offense.

Outcome: Win (1-2)

Week 4: at San Diego Chargers (Loss)

This is a recipe for disaster for the Jaguars. They travel from Jacksonville all of the way to San Diego on the west coast to face a high-powered offense led by an elite quarterback in Philip Rivers In Week 3 of 2013, the Jaguars traveled to Seattle to play the Seahawks, only to lose 45-17. They won't lose as badly in this one, but expect a blowout with the Jaguars on the wrong end of the result.

Outcome: Loss (1-3)

Week 5: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (Loss)

The Steelers come back home to play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both of these teams usually play close games. In fact, the Jaguars' last playoff victory came during the 2007 season when they knocked off the Steelers. However, Pittsburgh is a battle-tested team led by a headstrong quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger. Look for this to be a low-scoring affair, with the Steelers edging the Jaguars in the fourth quarter.

Outcome: Loss (1-4)

Week 6: at Tennessee Titans (Win)

One of the Jaguars' four victories in 2013 came against the Titans in Week 10 at Tennessee. Since 2009, both of these teams have split their season series. For whatever reason, no matter the record of each of these teams coming into these games, the teams match up very well. The Jaguars have a legit chance at being the second-best team in the AFC South, and this is their first chance to prove it.

Outcome: Win (2-4)

Week 7 vs. Cleveland Browns (Win)

The Jaguars defeated the Browns in Cleveland in Week 13, 32-28. It remains to be seen how the Browns will address their quarterback situation in the NFL Draft, but at the moment, Brian Hoyer would be the starting quarterback for the team. Cleveland is a hapless team with very little to look forward to in 2014, so it would actually be an upset if the Browns were to knock off the Jags at EverBank Field.

Outcome: Win (3-4)

Week 8: vs. Miami Dolphins (Loss)

The Miami Dolphins pay a visit to their sunshine state rivals when they visit Jacksonville. These teams have faced off just a total of five times in the regular season with the Dolphins winning the most recent matchup during the 2012 season. The Dolphins aren't much more talented than the Jaguars, but expect Ryan Tannehill to outplay Chad Henne or whichever quarterback the Jaguars draft in 2014.

Outcome: Loss (3-5)

Week 9: at Cincinnati Bengals (Loss)

I'd consider this an upset alert game. The Jaguars will make it tough for Cincy at Paul Brown Stadium, but the win will still go to the Bengals. The Jaguars will give many good teams fits in 2014, but there will be a lot of close games where they'll end up on the losing end of things. Jacksonville suffers their sixth loss of the season after this one.

Outcome: Loss (3-6)

Week 10: vs. Dallas Cowboys in London (Loss)

The Jaguars will play in London for the second straight season when they take on the Dallas Cowboys. In 2013, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Jags, 42-10, in London. Jacksonville will be playing in London a week after playing a tough game in Cincinnati. With how potent the Cowboys' offense can be at times, expect the Cowboys to take advantage of a road-weary Jags team.

Outcome: Loss (3-7)

Expect the Jaguars' midseason losing streak to continue when they falter versus the Colts in Week 12 after their bye week. The Colts will be playing for playoff position by this point, looking to extend their AFC South lead over their divisional rivals. Indianapolis splits the season series by winning one at home versus the Jaguars.

Outcome: Loss (3-8)

Week 13: vs. New York Giants (Loss)

By this point in the season, the New York Giants may either be an NFC East contender, or a team just looking to end the season on a good note. However, even if the Giants end up in the latter category with Eli Manning gunslinging interceptions from left to right, the Giants are a mentally tough team even when they're not a good team. That automatically poses problems for a young Jaguars team.

Outcome: Loss (3-9)

Week 14: vs. Houston Texans (Win)

The Jaguars finally end their five-game losing streak with a victory over their AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans. Expect the Texans to draft a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Which means that quarterback will start this game. That means he'll struggle versus Jacksonville's defense. The Jaguars win in convincing fashion.

Outcome: Win (4-9)

Week 15: at Baltimore (Loss)

This game just does not bode well for the Jaguars. The Baltimore Ravens are a mentally tough team just two seasons removed from the Lombardi Trophy. The same way the Steelers play are how the Ravens play. When considering the fact that this game is also in Baltimore, it would be a huge upset if the Jaguars to pull off a victory here.

Outcome: Loss (4-10)

The Jaguars will face off versus the Titans in their second meeting of the season on Thursday Night Football at EverBank Field. As mentioned before, these teams always split their season series. Expect the Titans to exact revenge on the Jags and cement Jacksonville as being a notch below the Titans in the AFC South.

Outcome: Loss (4-11)

Sadly enough, this game likely won't have playoff implications. Depending upon the development of Houston's starting quarterback, the Texans could either be playing for a wild card berth in Week 17, or be fighting to avoid being considered the worst team in the AFC South. The Texans will likely end up being a better team overall than the Jags in 2014, but here's to predicting that the Jags will sweep the Texans next season.

Outcome: Win (5-11)
