Top 5 Reasons Why Johnny Manziel Will Not Be Drafted By Dallas Cowboys

With 10 days left until the NFL Draft, one of the hottest rumors out there is the Dallas Cowboys’ interest in Johnny Manziel. There are reports that if Manziel is still available, Dallas would strongly consider drafting him. Cowboys fans are salivating over the idea of pairing Jerry Jones with Johnny Football. While I hate to rain on the Johnny to Dallas parade, here are five reasons why Manziel will not be drafted by the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys’ defense was the worst in the NFL last season, and that is where their draft attention needs to be. They have holes along the defensive line, linebackers, and secondary. So unless Jerry Jones plans on pulling a Mack Brown and recruiting Manziel as a safety, he really doesn’t fill a need.

Jerry Jones wants to win now and using the team's first pick in the draft on a player that will not see the field in year one doesn’t help them do that. In order to be a playoff contender, I believe Dallas needs to find at least four starters in this draft. Drafting a backup in round one would not be a good start.

Jason Garrett is entering the final year of his contract, and he and Jerry Jones know that another 8-8 season would be his last. Drafting Manziel would not help Garrett’s chances of winning. Jerry desperately wants Garrett to succeed because if he doesn't, Jerry will have to admit he made a mistake in hiring him.

2. Jerry’s Loyalty to Romo

Everyone says Jerry loves Johnny Manziel and that may be true, but he also has a deep love and admiration for Tony Romo. Drafting Manziel would be a nightmare for Romo. Every incompletion or interception would lead to chants of Johnny Football. If you thought Tebow Mania was wild in Denver, just imagine what Manziel Mania would be like in Dallas. I don't think Jerry would do that to Romo.

While it's fun to think about seeing the Cowboys' war room if Manziel is available at 16, the truth is that he will be long gone by then. Manziel is the best QB in this draft and some team in the top 10 is going to take him. Despite what the critics say, I believe Manziel is going to be a great NFL QB. The bottom line is this; Johnny Manziel will be a star in the NFL, but unfortunately for Cowboys fans, he will not be wearing one.
