Predicting the Outcome of Every Panthers Game

The Carolina Panthers have a tough road to the playoffs this upcoming season. It's going to be difficult for Cam Newton's squad to repeat their achievements from 2013, but the NFL is full of possibilities. Looking at the Panthers' 2014 schedule, let's go ahead and predict the outcome of every game in this 17-week obstacle course.

Week 1 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Week 1 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

New head coach Lovie Smith seems to be trying at a win now approach after having a strong offseason. They landed veteran QB Josh McCown who had a great year in Chicago after Jay Cutler went down. Tampa Bay also managed to score DE Michael Johnson, CB Alterraun Verner and more. They are definitely headed in the right direction, but I feel Cam Newton, plus the Panthers' defense, will be too much. Carolina comes out on top in a close one, 20-17.

A high-powered offense will be taking on a bruising defense when Matt Stafford, Reggie Bush and Calvin Johnson come to town. This should be an exciting way to open up the Panthers' season at home. As of late, Carolina has been a tough environment for opposing teams, so I do see Ron Rivera's boys going to bed that night with a 2-0 record. Panthers over the Lions in a high-scoring contest, 34-27.

Week 3 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers seem to be out of juice; health and age are an issue in the Steel City. A subpar offseason does not help the cause either. Pittsburgh is still always a tough place to play, but that's not the case here. Mike Tomlin and company will be traveling to Carolina for this matchup, and the they will have their plates full when dealing with the Panthers. Carolina over Pittsburgh in the Sunday night contest, 27-17.

Week 4 @ Baltimore Ravens

You know the Ravens' newly acquired WR Steve Smith is going to be fired up when his former team arrives in Baltimore. Smith already promised "blood and guts" as an opponent to the Panthers. Will the hot-headed receiver get his revenge? I believe he does. The Ravens are looking to bounce back from a below average season as defending Super Bowl champs. Baltimore gets the win at home in a bruising matchup, 24-20.

Week 5 vs. Chicago Bears

Panthers LB Luke Keuchly will need to be at tip top when trying to contain Bears RB Matt Forte and vice versa. This game is a tough one to predict; both teams are evenly matched in my opinion. However, if Jay Cutler can limit his mistakes, the Panthers secondary may struggle with Chicago's Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Bears beat Carolina on the road, 27-21.

Week 6 @ Cincinnati Bengals

This schedule is getting pretty ridiculous. Carolina will be looking to bounce back in Cincinnati after a tough home loss last week. The Panthers' defense will get after Andy Dalton quick, forcing him to make some errors. Cam Newton takes advantage of a turnover or two and pushes Carolina to a victory in a defensive battle, 17-13.

Week 7 @ Green Bay Packers

It only gets worse for Carolina when it travels to Lambeau Field to take on the Packers. The Panthers will need to discount double-check their defense after Aaron Rodgers and company tear through Ron Rivera's secondary. Cam Newton struggles as well with the Packers' pass rush tandem consisting of Clay Matthews and newly acquired DE Julius Peppers. Green Bay over Carolina, 31-17.

Week 8 vs. Seattle Seahawks

The back-breaking games continue when the defending Super Bowl champions travel to Carolina for what should be an outstanding defensive matchup. I don't see too many teams that can hang with the Seahawks at this point, but 2014 is a new year. It will be exciting to watch Luke Keuchly and Marshawn Lynch go head to head. However, I think Seattle will be too much to handle and goes home with the win, 23-13.

The New Orleans Saints are primetime specialists, but they always seem to fall short on the road in Carolina. Drew Brees and company do look to have a more promising 2014 campaign than Carolina after a fantastic offseason. However, judging by history, I give the advantage to the Panthers in this Thursday night contest. Carolina over New Orleans in a divisional win, 20-17.

Week 10 @ Philadelphia Eagles

Week 10 @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles hit the jackpot when they reeled in Oregon head coach Chip Kelly last season. The speed and explosiveness of their players couldn't have been a better fit for Kelly's style of play. The Eagles look to defend their NFC East title in 2014. Can the Panthers keep up in a hostile, Philly environment on Monday night? No, no, no. Not in Chip's house. Carolina returns home after suffering the loss, 30-24.

Week 11 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Week 11 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Division rivalry games are always important. The Falcons are looking to turn things around this year after an awful performance in 2013. Coach Mike Smith was on the hot seat all season, but Atlanta decided to stick with him. I believe the Falcons are the team most likely to bounce back in 2014. However, Carolina gets the W at home heading into the bye week, 21-17.

Week 13 @ Minnesota Vikings

Week 13 @ Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings will likely have a rookie leading the charge at this point of the season unless Christian Ponder can prove otherwise. Regardless, the Panthers should be getting after whatever vulnerable quarterback happens to be starting that day. Without Adrian Peterson, the Vikings would have no shot. With Peterson, a Vikings' win is still a stretch. Carolina gets the victory in Minnesota, 27-13.

Week 14 @ New Orleans Saints

Week 14 @ New Orleans Saints

It's never easy when you play New Orleans, especially in New Orleans. The Saints did not lose a single home game in 2013 and a repeat of that is definitely possible. Last year, the Black and Gold handed a beat-down (31-13) to the Panthers in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. New Orleans outplayed Carolina in all aspects of the game, so Cam Newton and company are looking for revenge. Will they get it? Nope. Saints dominate again at home, 34-14.

Week 15 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Week 15 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Carolina beat Tampa Bay back in Week 1, so the Bucs are looking to split the division series 1-1. Maybe Lovie Smith's win now approach has formed into a nice chemistry over the season. Maybe the Panthers sweep Tampa Bay on the year and get the victory at home. Which one is it? I'm going with the second option; Panthers win, 20-10.

Week 16 vs. Cleveland Browns

There is no reason the Panthers should lose to the Browns at home. However, I am quite interested to see how Cleveland's season turns out. The defense is headed in the right direction after a nice offseason. The offense was upgraded with the addition of RB Ben Tate, but who will be throwing the ball to stud wideout Josh Gordon? Regardless, Carolina dominates, 28-13.

Well, the Panthers' regular season comes to a close after they battle the Falcons in the final game. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the contest will be held in Atlanta's Georgia Dome. I give the advantage to the home team in this matchup. The Panthers will struggle to keep up with the Falcon's receiving corps in this game granting Atlanta the victory, 24-17.
