With the NFL Draft just a week away, Chicago Bears GM Phil Emery held a press conference today to spell out his thoughts on the upcoming draft. The revelations of the press conference were far from eye opening, though we did learn a bit of Emery's strategy heading into the draft. Here are 5 of the newest rumors surrounding the Bears draft plans.

1. The Bears Will Not Draft A Defensive Lineman First Round

Emery laid out his formula on drafting players, which included limiting the number of players at each position worthy of a first round pick. Based on his calculations the Bears may not land one of the top four DL in the first round which means they will hold off until the second round for that position.

If we continue to use Emery's draft formula, there are two safeties worth a first round pick: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor. If either of these players are still on the board at 14th overall it would make perfect sense for the Bears to take them.

As unlikely as this may seem, Emery made it perfectly clear that it was his belief that this draft was deeper on offense than on defense. When asked if they would consider drafting for offense in the first round, Emery remained coy and merely said they would be open to an offensive player as long as their value matched up with that pick. Unlikely as it may seem, it is not out of the realm of possibilities.

With only one RB on the roster behind Matt Forte with any NFL carries to his name, the Bears will be looking for some depth at the position. RB is a position that can have great value this year as the demand for RB's early on in the draft is not there and good players will fall to the later rounds.

Following the departure of Josh McCown, most fans were in agreement that the team needed another QB behind Jay Cutler. Emery may have dispelled those thoughts today when he expressed his opinion that a QB is only worth a draft pick if they are worth a first or second round pick. I think it's safe to say the Bears will not waste that early of a pick on a QB this year.
