The Dallas Cowboys may not target a quarterback in round one of the 2014 NFL Draft, but there's a very good chance they will look at one in a later round. Let's look at possible quarterbacks who the Cowboys could take in rounds 2-7.

Round 2: Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois)

Garoppolo is coming from the same school that current quarterback Tony Romo attended, so obviously there will be hype there for them to take Garoppolo. I’m not sure if he’ll fall far enough for the Cowboys to take him, but he’d be an interesting pick to make in the second round.

3rd Round: Zach Mettenberger (LSU)

Mettenberger has just kept on climbing up the quarterback rankings leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, and for good reason. He simply fell off a bit because of an injury, and I believe that we see Mettenberger turn into a steal for whoever gets him. I believe he’ll go in the third round.

4th Round: Aaron Murray (Georgia)

Murray is probably my favorite quarterback prospect for the Cowboys to take this season in the draft. He has all of the tools that an NFL quarterback needs, and he’s in a similar situation as Mettenberger was with the injury that hurt his stock. I think Murray may be the biggest surprise in this draft at quarterback.

5th Round: Tom Savage (Pittsburgh)

Some people have said that Savage’s stock is flying up right now, and that he’s nearing a second-round pick, but I’m not buying. I think we'll see quarterbacks slide a good bit in this draft, and Savage will go somewhere around the fifth round. I think that he has a good amount to work on before he gets on the field in the NFL, but sitting behind Romo is a good spot for him to learn.

6th Round: David Fales (San Jose State)

Fales has probably suffered the toughest fall in terms of draft stock, as he was originally listed as a sleeper who could make some noise for an NFL team. While he’s flying under the radar like this, I think he could be a nice pick-up for Dallas in the sixth round, and he’ll simply just sit back behind Romo and Brandon Weeden while learning the offense and possibly taking that next step.

7th Round: Garrett Gilbert (SMU)

Super sleeper alert. Almost no one is talking about Garrett Gilbert, and he’s definitely a guy who needs work, but this guy has potential. He’s talented and after transferring from Texas to SMU, he had a much better career, specifically in his senior season. He’s a player to watch, and I’ll keep an eye out for his name in the seventh round.
