Aaron Murray might be one of the biggest steals in this year’s NFL Draft. Many of the experts expect Murray to be a mid-round pick, but in a draft full of quarterbacks, Murray might be one of the most underrated in the entire group. The signal-caller proved during his time with the Georgia Bulldogs that he has what it takes to win. Unfortunately for Murray, some experts believe he lacks the size it takes to make it as a quarterback in the NFL.

Ask anybody who has followed Murray throughout his career and they will tell you differently. Yes, he doesn’t have the prototypical size you look for, but he makes up for it with the way he competes. There was not a quarterback in college football who played with the kind of heart Murray did during his tenure with the Bulldogs.

To go along with being able to perform on the field, there are three things coaches and GMs look for in a quarterback: leadership ability, mental toughness and dedication to the game. There is no doubt that Murray possesses all three of those traits. He ranks at or near the top of those categories amongst all the quarterbacks expected to be drafted.

On the field, Murray has outstanding athletic ability. He might not have the arm strength like some of the other draft-eligible quarterbacks, but it is adequate enough to make the tough throws. Not only does he have great athletic ability, but he is an incredible decision-maker.

Murray’s best trait is definitely his mental toughness. During his time with the Bulldogs, Murray often played behind mediocre offensive lines. He took some vicious hits but always seemed to get back up and continue to lead his offense. For instance, in the Bulldogs’ game against the Auburn Tigers in 2010, Murray was on the receiving end of some dirty hits by the former Tigers defensive lineman Nick Fairley. It was apparent that Fairley was trying to injure Murray, but even after every hit, Murray got up and kept playing. This showed just the type of competitor Murray is.

By the end of his college career, Murray had broken almost every major SEC passing record. He finished his career as the conference’s all-time leader in yards, touchdown passes, completions and total offense. Production is definitely not one of the things the NFL should be worried about when it comes to Murray. The quarterback started 52 games in his career, which is something that is unheard of in the SEC.

What might be even more unbelievable is the fact that Murray suffered a torn ACL about five months ago and was still able to show off his skills at the Bulldogs’ pro day. It is almost unheard of for a player to come back from an ACL tear that quick, but Murray is not your normal player. He has the work ethic and dedication it takes to accomplish any goal. If you ask Murray, he will tell you that he feels great and is ready to prove all the naysayers wrong.

As the draft quickly approaches, Murray will continue to work out for teams in hopes of proving his worth. When it is all said and done, you can bet some team will be getting a steal. We will look back and realize that Murray did not garner the praise he deserved.
