Playing quarterback in the NFL will put you under a microscope. Just ask Colin Kaepernick.

After riding the pine for the first season and a half of his pro career, Kaepernick was thrust into the spotlight towards the end of 2012. Since then, it’s been quite a journey for the young signal-caller. He’s been to the Super Bowl and within a couple plays of going back a second time.

But it appeared things were starting to come unraveled last month when the QB was named in an ugly TMZ report. It seemed that Kaepernick was under investigation for a possible sexual assault — but that wasn’t the case. He was named in a Miami police report in what was deemed a ‘suspicious incident’, but no charges have been brought against the 26-year old.

Here’s what he recently told the Modesto Bee on the incident:

“It’s been put out that I did something wrong. Even though it’s a bad circumstance, a bad situation, I feel like ultimately I’ve been blessed because it’s changed my way of thinking. It’s made me stronger. It’s made me look at things differently.”

Could it be? Is the normally smug QB finally growing up before our eyes? These comments lead you in that direction.

It’s fair to say that Kaepernick has a bit of an attitude. A lot of it is probably just the way he comes across in interviews, but the word ‘immature’ had been associated with him on several occasions before the TMZ story came out.

49ers fans are hoping that he has indeed learned from the Miami situation and that he’s turned over a new leaf. It’s not like he was acting like some entitled little punk, but his attitude certainly needed a little adjusting.

We’ll now see if he can not only talk the talk in 2014, but also walk the walk when it comes to his off-field actions.
