No one has ever questioned whether or not Wes Welker is a nice guy. Although I haven’t exactly met the guy in person, by what I’ve seen and heard about his public persona, Welker is the type of guy you wouldn’t mind hanging out with on the weekend.
Well, if there was anyone who wasn’t on the same page, they have reason to be now. According to several sources, Welker handed out $100 bills after winning big at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. The Denver Broncos wide receiver made it rain, spreading his earnings out to just about anyone within arm’s length.
Here’s a picture that was caught by one of the lucky recipients.

Welker was seen walking away with a stacks of money, so handing out a few Benjamins likely didn’t do much to his bank account. Oh yeah, and he recently signed a $12 million deal with the Broncos, so I doubt he’s going to miss that money anytime soon.
Chances are that the happiness he provided those few lucky folks was worth much more to him than the few hundred dollars he parted ways with.
Welker was eventually cut off from his giving spree by a police office, and left the track with his huge stack in hand. It’s always a bit souring seeing star athletes winning large amounts of money, but at least he was generous enough to share his success with those less fortunate than him.
I don’t know if it’s a “Faith in Humanity: Restored” type of situation, but it certainly shows that not all athletes are greedy and self-centered.
