The Buffalo Bills made the first trade of the draft by moving up to No. 4 overall, and boy, did they make that pick count by picking up Sammy Watkins, the dynamic receiver out of Clemson.

This was a great pick first and foremost. Watkins is a rare type of receiver, and is an elite talent at the position. The Bills wanted to add talent around last year’s first-rounder, E.J. Manuel, and they did just that by moving up to select Watkins.

Watkins is a playmaker, plain and simple. He reminds me of someone like A.J. Green or Julio Jones, and he is set up to succeed at the next level. Across from Stevie Johnson, Watkins is going to get opportunities to produce, and I fully expect him to take advantage of those opportunities.

An elite athlete, Watkins is NFL-ready, and a sure bet to be productive from day one. The Bills gave Manuel the type of weapon that every young quarterback needs, and in the process, they have given Manuel everything he needs to take the next step going into year two.

Overall, I love this pick for the Bills. We heard the rumors about the team wanting to trade up in the draft, and those rumors came to fruition in a big way on draft night. Watkins not only makes the Bills’ offense better, but he makes the entire Buffalo team better. This was a fantastic pick for the Buffalo Bills, and Watkins is going to reward their investment handsomely.
