Many Jacksonville Jaguars fans were left scratching their heads on Thursday night. The team selected Blake Bortles with the No. 3 overall pick, which is definitely a bit of a stretch. However, the Jags were back at it early in round two on Friday night. With the No. 39 overall pick Jacksonville took Marqise Lee.
The WR out of USC is definitely a great value pick at No. 39. He was a guy that many thought could go on day one, but he ultimately fell down the board for a team in need like the Jags.
With the news of Justin Blackmon likely being out for the entire 2014 season, this selection becomes even bigger. Jacksonville had to get a pass-catcher for Bortles to work with down the road, and Lee is definitely a good fit. He’s not a blazing wide out, running a 4.52/40, but he’s a guy who’s going to make plays. Call it the ‘it’ factor or whatever you want, but many analysts think Lee has the intangibles to be successful on Sunday.
As for who will be throwing him the ball during his rookie season, it sounds like it will be Chad Henne out of the gate. The Jags have already deemed him their guy for at least the beginning of 2014, and if he plays well, he may not relinquish that spot all year. But everybody knows that if Henne stumbles a bit, fans will be yelling for Bortles to take over.
It may take a few years, but Lee and Bortles could become quite the 1-2 punch.
