The first round of the 2014 NFL Draft is complete, and there were many surprises (as usual) in the first night. There are still many more important picks to come, but who has done the best so far with their selections?
The Buffalo Bills gave up an awful lot to get Sammy Watkins at No. 4 (see Julio Jones in 2011), but getting an elite talent at the wide receiver position will certainly help E.J. Manuel. Defenses won't be able to focus solely on Stevie Johnson anymore with a legitimate threat on the other side of the field.
Having the No. 1 pick makes it easy to get a good player, but teams have found ways to screw it up in the past. Getting the best player in Jadeveon Clowney in a very deep draft is nothing to downplay.
The Vikings crept back into the first round (pick No. 32) to nab their potential quarterback of the future in Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater could very well end up being the best quarterback from this draft. Don't forget about their first selection at No. 9 either in UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr.
The Browns were the most active team on Thursday night, making three different trades. Getting a legitimate No. 2 corner (Justin Gilbert) with the 8th pick to put opposite Joe Haden will help the Browns' pass defense. Passing up Watkins at No. 4 may have been a mistake, but getting a 2015 first-rounder by trading down is big. Oh yeah, they also picked some quarterback named Johnny.
Having two picks at Nos. 2 and 13, the Rams needed to get players who will have an impact right away. Getting the best offensive (Greg Robinson) and defensive (Aaron Donald) tackles in the draft definitely fits that criteria.
