It’s been more than a month since Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay entered rehab, after a DUI arrest in March. He’s been silent, out of sight and getting treatment. But news of his imminent return started to trickle out earlier this week, when the organization announced that he planned to attend the May owner’s meeting. He also plans to participate in Indianapolis’s 2018 Super Bowl Bid, which was officially submitted this week.

The Colts tweeted out a picture of a rather quiet, empty-looking draft war room this evening, featuring Ryan Grigson, Chuck Pagano and a vacant chair between them. Around that same time, Mr. Irsay himself sent a series of messages to Colts fans, his first since March 17.

Irsay’s Twitter account has in some ways defined him over the past few years. He runs contests, tweets random song lyrics, and has the tendency to drive his followers a little crazy. But seeing him back online during the draft warmed my heart because it indicates that he’s on the mend, and he’s re-engaging just in time for the Colts’ first pick tomorrow. I doubt that I’m the only one who missed him. Welcome back, boss!
