We can sit back and talk about the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks all day when looking at Super Bowl XLIX (and probably should). But let’s take a look at this from a different angle instead and find some intriguing bets to possibly win the Super Bowl this coming season after the NFL Draft.
I wouldn’t exactly say that any team set themselves up to contend for a championship immediately thanks to the draft, but teams definitely improved in quite a few ways, and I can see some teams that could potentially knock off the Broncos and Seahawks to represent the NFC and the AFC when all is said and done. I’m going to take a look at a few good bets for teams who could surprise us all and also check out their odds of winning the Super Bowl.
Chicago Bears: To me, the Bears just seem to have something go wrong at the most inopportune time possible each season. This year is going to be different, though, and we’ll see them back in the playoffs. They had a great draft bringing in cornerback Kyle Fuller, fourth-round safety Brock Vereen was an absolute steal and the fact that they drafted two defensive tackles in Ego Ferguson and Will Sutton also makes me feel even better about this defense.
Defense was going to be the issue, but the Bears addressed it. Now I think they are going to be a scary sleeper in the NFC with Super Bowl odds of 36-to-1.
New Orleans Saints: At Super Bowl betting odds of 15-to-1, you’d be crazy not to consider the Saints. Not only do they have a scary good offense already led by Drew Brees, but they added to it by trading up to get wideout Brandin Cooks, who will be an impact player from the word go. This team had a strong draft, and one other pick that I want to mention is second-rounder Stanley Jean-Baptiste, who should be able to contribute immediately for them.
Don’t overlook the Saints this season (not that you likely would since they have that guy named “Brees” on their team), because they are loaded up and ready to make a run.
St. Louis Rams: This one seems absolutely insane, but what a draft they had. That scary good defense that they showed us at the end of the year? Well, it’s back and it’s deeper than I could have imagined. They added corner Lamarcus Joyner, who is an immediate playmaker, as well as excellent defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
Oh yeah, and tackle Greg Robinson is going to be incredible for this team and is exactly what they needed on the offensive line to (hopefully) keep Sam Bradford healthy and standing upright. Let’s not forget about that seventh-round pick Michael Sam. I don’t care about the back story; I just care about the fact that if he can get to the quarterback the way he did in college last year, then the Rams just got a steal.
You have to be willing to take some risks to even consider making this bet, but at 53-to-1, if you’re a Rams fan, why not give it a shot this season?
