It’s been one heck of a roller coaster ride for the Cleveland Browns over the last five days. It all started on day one of the draft this past Thursday with the selection of Johnny Manziel. It continued on Friday with the news of Josh Gordon likely headed for a suspension. Now, it’s all about the team’s defense.
Cornerback Joe Haden has been re-upped by the Browns in a big way.
Browns CB Joe Haden agreed to 5-year extension with CLEV, as @ProFootballTalk reported. It’s a $68M deal, including $45M guaranteed.

If you’re a fan of the brown and orange, this news will definitely take your mind off the Gordon situation for a little bit. Haden is a premier corner in the NFL and now he’ll be in Cleveland for a long time to come. Sure, the price tag is large. But Haden is worth every nickel.
The main reason he’s worth a truckload of money is because of his age; at only 25, he’s just now entering his prime.
Haden is coming off his first Pro Bowl season in 2013 in which he intercepted four passes while starting 15 games. He’s the backbone of the Browns’ defense, which is a unit that’s definitely on the rise. While Cleveland’s D isn’t quite in the top-tier of the NFL yet, it’s not far off; the Browns ranked ninth last year in total defense (332.4).
With several other key offseason additions and now the re-upping of Haden, the Browns defense is undoubtedly set up for success over the next few seasons.
