The Bucs are in a transition period as they bring in new head coach Lovie Smith. As a coach, your first draft sets the foundation of your team for the future. Let's see how Smith and his staff graded out in 2014.

Everyone who did a mock draft this year should have gotten this selection correct. The Bucs had a need at receiver, and with Sammy Waktins off the board Evans was the next best thing. While the Bucs already have a receiver with similar physical tools in Vincent Jackson, you can never have too many weapons. Draft Grade: A

Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE Washington: Round 2, No. 38 Overall

Tampa addressed its need for a play making tight end with the selection of Seferian-Jenkins. While he isn't a burner, Seferian-Jenkins does the little things right and should provide whoever ends up at quarterback a nice security blanket in the middle of the field. Draft Grade: B+

Charles Sims RB West Virginia: Round 3, No. 69 Overall

This was a headscratcher for many Bucs fans. The need for speed on the offense was there and Sims provides that, but there is a logjam at running back. He does have enough size to move to the slot and succeed if he can learn the route tree at that position. Draft Grade: C+

Edwards is a project selection with size, but he lacks the techniques. If the Bucs are willing to be patient with him, he could blossom into a capable backup. If not, he may end up on the practice squad. Draft Grade: C

Kevin Pamphile OG Purdue: Round 5, No. 149 Overall

Pamphile brings some depth to the guard position where there is uncertainty due to the lingering injuries with Carl Nicks. Pamphile may not be ready for a few seasons, but he has the talent to make the team and contribute if he remains dedicated. Draft Grade: B-

Robert Herron WR Wyoming: Round 6, No. 185 Overall

Even with the selection of Mike Evans at No. 7, the Bucs still had a lack of speed at the receiver position. Offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford likes guys who have speed, and Herron fits the bill. If he can translate that better on the field, he has the potential to make the roster. Draft Grade B-
