Word came out the day after the first round of the NFL draft that the Cleveland Browns‘ top wide out Josh Gordon would be facing a possible year-long suspension for his second failed drug test. Who could fill his place? Enter, Houston Texans veteran wide out, Andre Johnson.
Cleveland decided to go with Johnny Manziel in the first round to be their quarterback of the immediate future — although the front office has already said that Brian Hoyer is the starter.
Manziel was probably excited to be able to work with Gordon and throw the ball up to one of the best receivers in the league, but hearing the news of his possible suspension the day after had to put a damper on the young quarterback’s new team outlook.
Needing to draft a wide out to possibly replace Gordon, the Browns totally failed and didn’t draft a single one. They did, however, sign five undrafted free agent wide outs — only a couple have a realistic shot at making the final roster.
So what to do they do?
Andre Johnson recently said that he might want out of Houston and which team makes the most sense? How about the team desperate to add another receiver — especially if Gordon is suspended.
Sure, this is all speculation at this point in time, but you have to think the Browns have been on the phone, frantically trying to get in touch with Houston about a possible trade.
This would definitely be something to keep an eye on because Cleveland is looking for a No. 1 receiver with experience and Johnson is the perfect option.
