Jimmy Garoppolo Would Probably Be Happier On Team Other Than New England Patriots

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady should be very unhappy with the selection of QB Jimmy Garoppolo with the team’s second-round pick. How should Garoppolo feel?

The Ohio Valley Conference‘s male athlete of the year for 2013-14 seems extremely excited that he is beginning his NFL career in New England. Garoppolo has said in the media that he couldn’t imagine a better opportunity and that studying film and the playbook are what makes a quarterback great. It sounds like Garoppolo will fit in nicely with Brady when it comes to putting in the work, but should Garoppolo really be this happy about being in New England?

Garoppolo should be ecstatic about being selected in the second-round and he should feel very fortunate he gets to learn under Brady. Garoppolo is fortunate he was drafted by an organization that is the opposite of dysfunctional. That being said, Brady is under contract through 2017. Something incredibly unfortunate would have to happen between now and then for Garoppolo to see any meaningful time in a game. Deep down Garoppolo must believe he could be in a fight for a starting job elsewhere, but now he is working to be named Brady’s backup. That will be easier if the Patriots trade current backup QB Ryan Mallet (although this is the final year of Mallet’s rookie contact), but Garoppolo’s goal should be to be a starting QB. The soonest that could become a reality in New England is when Brady’s contract is up after 2017.

It sounds like Garoppolo is prepared to make the most of his opportunity, so hopefully he succeeds even if Patriots’ fans are skeptical at this point. Hopefully Garoppolo can help the Patriots continue their winning ways after Brady retires.
