In previous years, the Cowboys have done a solid job in finding undrafted free agents that have contributed to the team, as in the cases of kicker Dan Bailey and starting safety Barry Church, so let’s take a look at the undrafted free agent special teamers and defensive backs that signed with the Cowboys following the Draft; who knows, maybe there’s a gem there to be found.

Mandell was Alabama’s punter the last four seasons. In 2013, he was an All-SEC, second-team selection after having 14 of his 39 punts travel 50 yards or more and averaging 47.1 yards per punt. He has a strong, accurate leg, but at times the ball doesn’t explode off his foot.

Kreiter was a rock-solid long-snapper at Iowa where he played on special teams the last three years. He’s considered one of the best long snappers coming out of college, so the fact that the Cowboys landed him could be huge. I don’t expect Kreiter to unseat L.P. Ladouceur.

Phillips received the Cowboys largest signing bonus out of all the undrafted free agents this season. In college, he was regularly asked to cover the opponent’s top receiver where he managed to bring down 12 career interceptions. He’s a smaller guy at only 5-11, 180-lbs., but has good speed and solid hands. Along with DT Davon Coleman, he’s one of my favorite UDFA signings.

Jocquel Skinner (CB) Bethel

Skinner intrigues me because of his measurables. He’s 6-1, 185-lbs, but has the frame to add weight. He ran a 4.49-40 and posted a 37-inch vertical. Skinner finished his collegiate career with 13 interceptions, and from what I could tell, he isn’t afraid to come up in run support.

Robinson spent three seasons with Michigan before transferring to Ferris State for his senior year. In 2013, he was an All-GLIAC first-team selection after posting 89 tackles, five pass breakups and an interception. Not the biggest guy, but has pretty good size, at 6-1, 200-lbs, and did a decent job in run support. Has a long way to go if he’s going to make the team.

Ryan Smith (S) Auburn

In 2013, Smith took over as a starter for Auburn and turned in his best season, finishing the year with 68 tackles and three interceptions. He has pretty good size, at 6-1, 196-lbs., good speed and is physical when asked to cover one-on-one. As with Robinson, he has a long way to go if he is to make the team.
