Jim Kelly has fought many battles on the gridiron, but he’s no doubt in the fight of his life at present time. That fight is against cancer, which currently resides in his jaw.
The news of Kelly’s cancer returning hit the sports world hard, and it’s been tough to look at some of the photos of him posted online by his daughter. The former QB looks to be in rough shape, but it appears he might be turning the corner.
Check out this video where Kelly talks about his illness at the length for the first time since his diagnosis. And of course, he finds time to talk a little Buffalo Bills football:
“(Kelly tough) means standing up and giving it your all no matter what comes your way, and sticking to your guns when it comes to what you believe in. For me, it means staying tough to beat cancer. And I want everyone in Buffalo to join me in being Kelly tough to keep the Bills right where they belong: Here in western New York.”
“The cancer has been rough. It’s hurt really bad. I’m not out of the woods by any means, but we think the treatments are going well, and I’m going to beat this!”
If that video doesn’t move you on some level, it’s hard to say what will.
While it’s tough to watch Kelly in a weakened state, it’s no doubt inspiring at the same time. He’s set on beating cancer and keeping the Bills where they belong. That’s getting him through right now, along with all the tremendous support he’s received from his family and the Buffalo organization/fans. It’s heart-wrenching, but that’s just life sometimes.
Here’s to hoping Kelly continues to kick cancer’s butt.
