In previous years, the Cowboys have done a solid job in finding undrafted free agents that have contributed to the team, as in the cases of receivers Miles Austin and more recently, Cole Beasley, so let’s take a look at the undrafted free agent receivers and tight ends that signed with the Cowboys following the 2014 NFL Draft; who knows, maybe there’s a gem there to be found.

Boyd didn’t play in 2013 because he was dismissed from the team due to legal issues. However, in 2012, he caught 50 passes for 774 yards and five touchdowns. He’s a tall, possession receiver at 6-4, 205-lbs., who adjusts well to the ball downfield. He’s also good at boxing out the defender when going up for the ball.

Washington is a tall, athletic guy who is also a legitimate deep threat. He’s an unpolished receiver that at times looks lost on the field; too many miscues. Physically, he’s one of the most gifted athletes, and his story is one that will make you root for him.

Kaneakua Friel (TE) BYU

One thing that Friel has going for him is that he has the prototypical size that teams look for in tight ends at 6-4, 265-lbs. However, he’s not the most polished receiver and must improve his blocking technique. He’s worth a look, but I don’t see him sticking around.

Jordan Najvar (TE) Baylor

As with Friel, Najvar has the size teams look for at 6-6, 256-lbs. Despite his lack of production at Baylor, Najvar has shown that he can catch the ball, however he lacks the NFL-level speed to break away after the catch. He’s a physical blocker, but still needs to refine his technique.

Evan Wilson (TE) Illinois

Wilson is an athletic player that, despite poor catching numbers in college, has tremendous leaping ability and does a good job catching the ball with his hands. He’s unpolished as a route runner, but he is a tremendous run-blocker.
