The San Diego Chargers surprisingly made the NFL playoffs last season and are only missing a few pieces on the road to returning in 2015. San Diego had a good 2014 NFL Draft, but have addressed some key issues by bringing in undrafted free agents to force other players to compete for their position. Here are five of those UDFAs who could potentially make the 53-man roster.
A good player in college, he lacks the physical needs for projected NFL success. However, athleticism and football intelligence could lead to a reoccurring playing role in specific situations and schemes.
A very talented safety who lacks some speed, Darby could find himself competing for a back-up position on the roster. He has a lot of potential.
Davis has the intangibles, like leadership and “clutch” ability (see his 108-yard kickoff return to defeat Alabama), but doesn’t have impressive numbers in college when it comes to defense. His return ability could be what separates him from other cornerbacks and allows him a spot on the roster with time to develop before ever seeing time on the field as a CB.
Brother of Baltimore’s Joe Flacco, Mike Flacco is a raw-prospect with enormous physical talent for the tight end position. He could make the roster just on intrigue alone.
Ducre is one of the best athletes of the 2014 Draft class and was unfortunate not to be picked in the seventh-round. San Diego will see the potential in an explosive athlete like Ducre and the value of having him develop as a member of their roster. He could even see some playing time in obvious passing downs.
